EU urges TikTok to step up efforts to counter disinformation

The EU's top technology regulator issued instructions to TikTok's CEO on Monday (November 6), requiring him to "spare no effort" to combat false information, and also recognized TikTok's efforts to this end.

TikTok revealed that it removed 4 million videos flagged as "violations" in the European Union in September, its first transparency report since the Digital Services Act (DSA) came into force in the bloc.

The EU's Digital Services Law requires large online platforms to take more measures to combat illegal and harmful online content on the platforms. This is one of a series of recent EU regulations aimed at reining in the power of big tech companies.

It is reported that Zhou Shouzi will meet with European Commission Vice President for Values and Transparency Vera Jourova and EU Justice Commissioner Didier Reynders in Brussels on Tuesday.

Under the DSA, all major online platforms are required to publish transparency reports every six months.
