A Marketing Force That Cannot Be Ignored! TikTok Launches 'incubation' Program For Black Creators

According to Forbes, TikTok launched a three-month "incubation" program for black creators on its platform – TikTok for Black Creatives – in early February. The plan aims to invest in emerging black creators and music artists while attracting more users to TikTok.

The TikTok for Black Creatives program launched in January this year, with applications due on January 27. Applicants can submit a minute-long video showcasing their skills, with finalists announced in February. Out of 100 Black Project Participants.

In the first 24 hours after the program opened for applications, TikTok received more than 5,000 applicants. TikTok wrote in its blog that although only 100 people were ultimately selected, "we are thrilled with the community participation, and we are excited about the TikTok for Black Creatives program and will further promote the development of the black creator community on TikTok."

During this three-month “incubation” program, participants will participate in community-building forums, experience educational events with TikTok executives, and visit inspiring town halls featuring Black entrepreneurs and celebrities.

TikTok has also partnered with MACRO, a cross-platform media company that represents the voices and perspectives of people of color, and is providing grants to a small number of these participants to help them purchase production equipment, educational resources and some Other content creation tools.

The event's top 100 Black creators include artists, musicians, entertainers, chefs, educators, fitness instructors, health coaches, and beauty and fashion bloggers. The list includes Bran Movay, Marc Strong, Grace Victoria, and Robert L. .Statesboro.

However, TikTok was not so “savvy” from the beginning. Just in June last year, TikTok was involved in a controversy of racial discrimination because most of the videos that were suspected of being deleted belonged to black creators.

In the global transparency report released by TikTok for the second half of 2020 (July 1 to December 31), TikTok confirmed that it had removed more than 100 videos globally in the second half of 2020 for violating community guidelines or terms of service. 89 million videos, nearly 11.776 million videos were deleted in the United States.

While the report did not reveal demographic breakdowns of these deleted videos, many black creators said their videos were removed at higher rates.

In addition to TikTok, other social media platforms have also launched similar programs for black creators to support their growth. YouTube, for example, launched the #YouTubeBlack Voices Fund last October, enrolling 132 Black YouTubers and providing them with grants. Facebook also launched the #BuyBlackFriday program last October, providing a three-month “quarter of support” for black entrepreneurs.

It can be seen that as black creators are further seen by the world with the support of the platform, it is also a good or even common choice to seek black creators to promote and bring products.
