Shuangjie Was Blocked Again! TikTok Encounters Another Crisis In Pakistan

After five months, TikTok has been blocked by Pakistan again! What's the reason this time?

I don’t know if you still remember the turmoil TikTok caused in Pakistan in October last year. On October 9, the Pakistan Telecommunications Regulatory Authority banned TikTok due to complaints from all walks of life about immoral/indecent content on the platform. On October 19, the Pakistan Telecommunications Regulatory Authority announced the resumption of TikTok operations.

And now, about five months later, TikTok has been blocked again. On March 11, the Pakistan Telecommunications Regulatory Authority issued a statement on Twitter↓

The statement reads as follows: In order to respect the order of the Peshawar High Court, the PTA has issued instructions to service providers to block access to the TikTok application with immediate effect. During a case hearing today, the PHC has ordered the app to be blocked.

Why was TikTok blocked this time? According to Al Jazeera, Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Qaiser Rashid Khan accused TikTok of hosting "content that is unacceptable to Pakistani society." The British "Financial Times" reported that Qasel Rashid Khan believed that the platform was suspected of "peddling vulgarity."

In a statement to The Verge, TikTok said: TikTok is built on creative expression and has strong safeguards in place to prevent inappropriate content on the platform.

TikTok added that it has grown its local language moderation team in Pakistan and has mechanisms to report and remove content that violates community guidelines.

There are many obstacles on the road to TikTok's development. Not to mention being banned in Pakistan, life in Europe and the United States is not peaceful either. Just recently, TikTok faced a series of complaints from consumer protection organizations in Europe, and it also had to pay $92 million in compensation for 21 class actions against TikTok in the United States.

However, TikTok’s glorious achievements abound. Just in the past February, TikTok and Douyin once again became the most downloaded non-game applications in the world. They were also the highest-grossing applications in the world, with user spending exceeding US$110 million.

Now, many sellers are trying to use TikTok to attract traffic. According to sellers, the traffic is still considerable. After that, the team will make a matrix and continue to work hard on TikTok.
